Cerebral Palsy and Sports

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a group of neurological disorders that affect a person’s ability to control their muscles and movement. It is a lifelong condition that usually becomes apparent in early childhood, typically before the age of 3. CP is caused by damage or abnomalities in the developing brain, which can occur during pregnancy, childbirth, or early infancy. Cerebral palsy does not preclude individuals from participating in sports and physical activities. In fact, sports and physical activities can offer numberious benefits to individuals with CP, including improved physical fitness, social interaction, enhanced self esteem, and the development of motor skills. However, the extent to which someone with CP can participate in sports and the types of sports that are suitable may vary depending on the severity of the condition and their individual capabilities.
